Things to do at night in Vancouver (that aren’t at a pub)
Summer is officially here, which means the days and evenings are (generally) warmer and there are more opportunities to see what really makes Vancouver unique, its outdoors.
If you are visiting Vancouver, or you live here, it’s tempting to simply hit up a pub patio and enjoy some cold drinks, there are more unique experiences to be had this summer that go beyond your average happy hour.
Here is a roundup of our favourite nighttime Vancouver tours and experiences for those looking to do something other than drinking.
Take a glowing paddleboard out at dusk
Watch as your paddle board lights up the water with colourful light. This tour runs every Friday and Saturday when day turns to dusk. Don’t forget your GoPro or waterproof camera case!
See a theatrical tour of Vancouver’s historic Gastown
It’s one thing to stroll through Gastown on your own, but it’s an entirely different experience to hear gothic stories of Vancouver’s dark early history on a walking tour with Forbidden Vancouver Walking Tours. This tour meets at 8pm and is led by a professional actor who takes you through a dramatic plot weaving in and out of the backstreets and alleyways of historic Gastown. This is a truly unique experience for locals and visitors who want to unlock their imagination. Although many experiences with Forbidden Vancouver Walking Tours are for all ages, this one is best suited to adults.
Eat at Gastown’s top restaurants
While we’re on the topic of Gastown, it’s worthwhile to mention this neighbourhood boasts some of the city’s best restaurants and cafes. Although this experience isn’t at night, the timing works perfectly if you’re planning on doing the previously mentioned Lost Souls of Gastown tour (which starts at 8pm). Head to the neighbourhood a few hours early and experience this award-winning tour at four of Gastown’s best restaurants with our friends at Vancouver Foodie Tours (starting at 3pm). Their Gastronomical Gastown tour is run by food experts who will make sure you taste the very best of what Gastown has to offer while sharing their local knowledge and foodie tips.

Experience a sunset bike tour
Catch the sunset and city lights as you zoom through Vancouver on two wheels. While the city sparkles during the day, there are certain districts that come to life at night. Let Cycle City Tours be your guide to light installations, neon signs, and even an ice cream stop at the beach while watching the sun dip behind the mountains. This is happy hour done right.

Visit one of Vancouver’s stunning beaches at golden hour
Golden hour is known as the last hour of sunlight during the day when everything is basked in a warm glow. Typically this is the best time to grab your camera or even just a blanket and head out to experience the magic (everything looks better in this light). A favourite place to do this in Vancouver is at Sunset Beach, right in the heart of the West End neighborhood (on Beach ave between Bute and Thurlow). P.S. Bring your bathing suit and towel, this is one of the few inner city beaches where you can enjoy a refreshing swim.
